Inclusive Marriage Policy
The Joint Charge of Nobleton/Schomberg United Church is a progressive congregation that supports equal marriage. Couples may be married regardless of gender, gender identity or sexual orientation. Those who decide to request to be married in Nobleton or Schomberg are asked to respect that the Sanctuary is one place where we gather to celebrate God’s presence. We believe that at the very heart of marriage is relationship: relationship between the couple being married, relationship between all of us and the Holy One. We respect a broad spiritual spectrum, and hope that you will understand that we take every relationship very seriously. The minister will work with the couple to create a ceremony that reflects the uniqueness of each relationship.

Our Wedding Process
Initial inquiry: Please contact us by email at nobletonunitedchurch@bellnet.ca or telephone at 905.859.3976, indicating your desired wedding date and time of day, as well as your contact information.
Meeting the minister: Once your desired wedding date/time is confirmed, you will arrange a mutually convenient time (about three months ahead) to meet the minister and discuss the details of the wedding service.
Your marriage licence: You need to obtain an application for a marriage licence from any Provincial Licensing Agency, or from the Government of Ontario’s website . You must deliver your completed licence to the church office no later than one week before your wedding day.
The wedding rehearsal: Your one-hour wedding rehearsal, usually takes place in the evening (6 p.m. or later), a few days prior to the wedding. The minister is present to walk you and your wedding party through the sequence of steps and movement of people in the ceremony. It’s expected that all details of the ceremony have been finalized prior to the rehearsal.
Arriving at the church: You may arrive at the church 90 minutes prior to the start time of your ceremony.
After your ceremony: We ask that you refrain from marking the occasion of your wedding by throwing rice or confetti, or scattering rose petals, either inside or outside the church. You and your guests are welcome to enjoy the grounds of the church or take group photos for up to 45 minutes after the conclusion of your wedding service.
